Admission

The bachelor of science program in scientific and technical communication (S&TC) is offered by the Department of Writing Studies in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA). More information on admission to CLA can be found at the College's prospective student website.

Declaring the S&TC Major

To declare an S&TC major, make an appointment to meet with the assistant director of undergraduate studies. Together you will complete an online declaration form which will show the requirements you need to fulfill to complete your major.

We strongly encourage you to complete a 12-18 credit minor or emphasis in a scientific or technical field.

Transfer Students

The College of Liberal Arts has more information on transferring to CLA on its prospective student website. It includes information on:

  • transferring your completed credits
  • transfer advisors
  • transfer information sessions
  • transferring to CLA from another U of M college

Important notes for transfer students

  • Of the 46 credits required for the S&TC major, 22 must be completed at the University of Minnesota.
  • You are required to complete all specific course and other program requirements regardless of the number of credits accepted for transfer.

Returning Students

If you were a student at the Twin Cities campus and are returning to the University of Minnesota, you need to apply for a transfer at the Office of Admissions on the campus where you last attended classes. If you attended a different college or university, follow the guidelines for transfer students.

University Honors Program

Beginning in the fall of 2008, the University Honors Program (UHP) will bring together opportunities and programs for honors students in all U of M-Twin Cities colleges. You are automatically considered for UHP when you submit your application to become a University of Minnesota student.
