RSTC Application Deadlines
M.A. and Ph.D. in RSTC:
Students are admitted to the M.A. and Ph.D. programs in RSTC only in the fall semester of each year.
The application deadline for the RSTC program is January 15.

To apply for admission you must submit the following documents to the director of graduate studies (DGS) and the graduate admissions committee in the Department of Writing Studies and to the Graduate School. Download Department of Writing Studies graduate application directions (PDF).
To the Department of Writing Studies:
- The Department of Writing Studies application form (PDF)
- Three evaluations or letters of recommendation. If you are a recent graduate, at least one form should be from your undergraduate advisor, major professor, or department chair. Evaluation forms from employers are also acceptable. The Graduate School has an electronic format for accepting letters of recommendation, or you may use the Department of Writing Studies graduate evaluation form (PDF).
- Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores (U.S. and Canadian applicants only). Use department code 4599, "Communication-Other," on your GRE form
- Two samples of your work. At least one sample should demonstrate your ability to carry out research and construct an argument based on research
- Statement of objectives and curriculum vitae
- Transcripts of all academic work completed (photocopies are acceptable)
- TOEFL scores (for international applicants only)
- If you are seeking a teaching positions, a completed Graduate Teaching Assistantship application form (PDF)
To the Graduate School:
We suggest that you apply to the Graduate School at least 3 weeks before the deadline to allow them time to process the information and forward it to our department.

- Transcripts from each undergraduate and graduate institution attended. (These transcripts may be unofficial. If you are admitted, you will be required to provide the Graduate School with official transcripts before you register.)
