“Change of Status” from the M.A. to the Ph.D. Program

Many students wish to enter the Ph.D. program after successfully completing their M.A.  If you wish to do so, you should talk with your advisor or the DGS about applying in early January of your second year.  If you are accepted, it will be contingent on your completing the M.A. by fall of your third year.  You may be able to transfer up to 18 credits into the Ph.D. program with your advisor’s consent.
